Rachel graduated from the University of Cambridge in the early 90s. She spent a year in small animal practice before choosing to focus on anaesthesia by training as an equine anaesthetist at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket. She completed an anaesthesia residency at UCDavis, becoming a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia in 1999. She has worked at the University of Cambridge UK; UCD, Ireland and the University of Helsinki, Finland. Rachel completed a PhD in clinical pharmacology at the University of Helsinki in 2017. She has also spent time working in both equine and small animal referral practice in the UK. She has been a member of Association of Veterinary Anaesthetists (AVA) since 1993 and served as membership secretary from 2013 to 2016 and Honorary Secretary of AVA from 2016 to present. She is a member of the European Association of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology. She currently serves as a member of the Veterinary Products Committee in the UK. Her interests focus on clinical pharmacology and anaesthesia. She has been an associate editor of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia since 2015..
