A 3-year-old male intact Labrador weighing 35.6 kg was presented to Eastcott Veterinary
Referrals for median sternotomy and lung lobectomy owing to pyothorax. Computed tomographic
examination, and bilateral chest drains were placed under general anaesthesia 1 day
prior to surgery. The dog was hospitalized overnight in the intensive care unit (ICU)
before surgery and treated with paracetamol (15 mg kg–1; Paracetamol; BBraun, UK) intravenously (IV) every 8 hours, and methadone (0.2 mg
kg–1; Comfortan; Dechra, UK) IV every 4 hours.
